My Approach To Mental Health

I am passionate and proud to offer a holistic, personalised and collaborative approach to help solve mental health queries. This consists of a holistic assessment with a bespoke treatment plan, including regular follow-up where required. I use an evidence-based approach and value spending time with clients to discuss holistic options to boost emotional well-being and improve mental health.

For therapy options I work collaboratively with therapists. I also assist with best fit between client and therapist.

Treatment Options Include:

  • Psychoeducation - about holistic diagnosis, prognosis and treatment options
  • Wellbeing therapies
  • Lifestyle medicine and integrative psychiatry
  • Traditional medication if required
  • Alternative non-medicinal options - e.g. nutritional supplements & psychobiotics
  • Therapy options (e.g. Mindfulness, CBT, CAT, DBT, IPT, relationship counselling)
  • Investigations - e.g. Myogenes
  • Devices - Alpha-Stim (CES), Flow (tDCS), and other tVNS devices
  • rTMS

About Me

Training

Whilst at medical school I intercalated a Psychology BSc and obtained 1st Class Honours which included a thesis on the effects of stress on the immune system. After qualifying in Medicine from Guy’s, King’s & St. Thomas’ medical school in London, I proceeded straight on to specialise in psychiatry in Central London University teaching Hospitals. First at South London & Maudsley NHS Trust and then onto the Royal Free/UCL NHS Trust for higher specialist training.

Consultant Psychiatrist

I have been very privileged to have trained in centres of excellence and thus have achieved a wealth of experience. My Consultant NHS work started in 2009, at Kensington & Chelsea - Assessment and Home Treatment Team, moving onto West London Mental Health NHS Trust where I have managed and led a ‘Crisis’ Team and liaison service, an Assertive Outreach Team (specialising in psychosis) and a Community Mental Health team. I fully understand the pros and cons of NHS mental health provision and can advise accordingly.

I have also provided care to private clients at The Portobello Clinic and also provided link work with Nuffield Health in the City. I served as a VIsiting Consultant at the Nightingale Hospital, Marylebone for over 10 years, and now I am excited to launch my own clinical service.

During my 20+ years of practising in mental health I have the experience of assessing, diagnosing and treating the full spectrum of conditions – from mild stress to severe and enduring mental illness. I have access to extensive psychotherapeutic interventions including a day hospital and inpatient unit. I am also very well versed in the application of the Mental Health Act including attending tribunals and providing medico-legal reports on behalf of my clients. Combining my psychiatry experience with a holistic approach is fundamental to my practice.

Teaching

I have been an Honorary Lecturer and Educational Supervisor at Imperial College Medical School, London. I have taught and supervised medical students, general practitioner trainees, trainee psychiatrists and nurse-prescribers.
